HydroComplete Maps

Your favorite place, in 3D, on your wall.

Pick any mountain, canyon, lake or stretch of coast. We turn real USGS elevation data into a layered relief map, 3D printed in 6, 8 or 10 colors that change with the elevation.

How it works

1

Frame your place

Search or drag the USGS topo map until the frame holds the area you want, from a single peak to a whole national park.

2

Pick your colors

Choose 6, 8 or 10 colors and a palette. Each color covers a band of elevation, so the colors read like contour lines you can touch.

3

We print and ship

Your map is printed layer by layer in PLA, checked and packed by hand, and delivered in 6 to 8 weeks. Have a 3D printer? Buy the files instead.

Questions

Where does the elevation data come from?

In the United States it is the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP), the same data behind USGS topo maps. Outside the US it comes from SRTM, GMTED2010, ETOPO1 and other open datasets, served through the AWS Terrain Tiles open data set.

Why does it take 6 to 8 weeks?

Every map is printed to order, one at a time. A 10-color large map is a long print with a filament change at every color band, and we check each one before it ships. Your order page shows your expected delivery dates, and we email you when it ships.

What is it made of, and how big is it?

PLA plastic, printed in layers 0.2 mm thick on a solid base. Small is 15 cm (6 in), medium 20 cm (8 in) and large 25 cm (10 in) on the long side. Height depends on the terrain and the exaggeration you pick, up to about 5 cm.

How do I hang it?

Maps are light enough to hang with adhesive picture-hanging strips on the flat back, or to stand on a shelf or easel.

What do I get with "print files"?

A ready-to-slice STL of your map and a color plan that lists each filament and the exact layer heights to change colors, for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer or any slicer with color changes. The download link stays in your email.

Can I cancel or return it?

Cancel for a full refund any time before your map is printed. Because each map is custom, we can't take returns on a finished map, but if it arrives damaged or wrong we'll reprint it or refund you. Email hello@hydrocomplete.com.

Is a map of my area accurate enough?

US data is roughly 10 m resolution or better, so mountains, valleys, river canyons and lakes come out crisply at these sizes. Very flat areas need more vertical exaggeration to show detail; the 3D preview shows exactly what you will get.
